There's much more than Lewinsky Scandal!
I remember those days, when White House was ruling the headlines all over the globe. It was not for the President's address to citizens or press conference, but one of the most talked scandals in the US history, Clinton-Lewinsky scandal was giving every news channel, the first International headline in their bulletins.
I spent many of my radio years receiving and broadcasting the news of so-called illegal love affair between 'the then President of the USA Bill Clinton' and 'then White House employee Monica Lewinsky.' It's been almost two decades that world witnessed Lewinsky's White House exposure, but the controversies sparked were followed up for many following years.
I left radio… But couldn't leave Monica Lewinsky. I kept googling about her. I started getting very much curious when she resigned from her job at White House.
She stayed grounded when the world, especially web world left her shattered. Few years back, almost after a decade, Lewinsky stood in front of the world. And this time, she had courage, and the power to face everything. She had all the answers that were once left unspoken.
She is the one, every girl/woman in the world MUST know about. I won't mind if you already knew her.
After her studies, in 1995, with the family connection, Monica Lewinsky got to work as an intern in White House office. The same year, she was converted into paid staff in White House Legislative Affairs office.
What else a woman want in her life? Monica was enjoying White House job. She was just 22 when she joined. She was good looking, smart, educated and above all... she had a prestigious job inside the most powerful house in the world.
Literally, she never had thought that her Wikipedia profile would turn into a bulky description of scandals and controversies one day.
Monica Lewinsky fell in love with Bill Clinton. President also started liking her. When the White House and its staffs got to know about their nearness, controversy sparked and flourished. After a year, seniors transferred Monica from White House to the Pentagon because of her indigestible acts inside the office. The scandal was followed by the revelations of secrets between Clinton and Lewinsky when she shared everything about her 'relationship with the President' to her closest office mate. Life turned too difficult for her and the same year, Monica left the job.
Later, Lewinsky confessed that she had several sexual encounters with President inside White House.
The scandal emerged as the worst part of Clinton's tenure. Clinton had to confess the truth.
The reports of Washington Post stated: "I did have a relationship with Miss Lewinsky that was not appropriate," Clinton said from the historic Map Room at the White House, where he had testified to a federal grand jury for more than four hours earlier in the day. "In fact, it was wrong. It constituted a critical lapse in judgment and a personal failure on my part for which I am solely and completely responsible."
Bill Clinton gave the above statement right after the end of his tenure.
She got the chance to work on TV, she had a variety of ventures in her bag. The reason? She became so famous after the scandal and was approached by many aspects.
But how long a woman could resist millions of people talking about her sexual relations with the man who rules the world? Monica left everything and stayed grounded.
She was broken. She thought of ending her life. She thought of killing all those who called her 'slut'. But she was helpless, she could do nothing except staying silent. Because she knew nobody would respect her voices.
I can understand how she lived her every breathe.
Her life was literally destroyed. But as they say, 'every cloud has a silver lining' somewhere, that 'braveness' inside her was screaming to come outside.
She used her 'one whole decade of darkness' to cultivate the braveness, courage and real womanism inside her. Hats off to this lady who decided to give a support to millions of women who have gone through the similar circumstances.
She is actively working as an advisor for Bystander Revolution, an anti-bullying organization. She has started empowering women via her interviews, articles, speeches, Twitter etc.
Her TED talk, 'the price of shame' came as a revolutionary step in the world of woman empowerment. She's 43 now, unmarried, and living life full of inspiration.
Monica Lewinsky believed - life always offers the second chance. And it's always darkest before the dawn.
There's no specific data on the average number of cyberbullying victims around the world, but according to bullyingstatistics.org - around half of the teenagers have faced the bitter consequences of cyberbullying. Every year, uncountable numbers of girls/women are victimized, and many of them choose 'suicide' as the solution to get rid of it.
Earlier I stated, Monica was also in the state of ending her life. But she didn't give up, she chose to fight. She chose to live, because she had to compensate what life had snatched from her. Now, she is living a life of purpose, a life that is lived for all those women all around the world who have become the victim of cyber bullying.
We are proud of you Monica, we're always with you. Share this story and take a step ahead to make this world a better place for girls/women.
