You would have heard about tear gas recently on the news when the Ferguson police used clouds of tear gas to fill up the streets so as to combat with the violent protestors. Tear gases, in general, are something that militaries have been messing around since World War I. They have been widely used as a chemical weapon in warfare through most of the 20th century and are still used for controlling domestic riots.
Well, despite frequent use of tear gas sprays in Egypt, Turkey and other countries, only limited people know the lethal effects of it.
So, to throw a light on the repercussions of tear gas, we have jotted down some of the harmful effects that one can experience after getting exposed to the tear gas.
Before giving a start to the effects of tear gas,let us know about tear gas. Basically, tear gas is a chemical agent or lachrymator which causes a stinging sensation and further tears.
However, tear gas stimulates the production of tears.
Sneezing, coughing, difficulty in breathing, burning, stinging sensations and increased nasal secretions.
The tear gas causes an irritating pain in eyes that result in secretion of tears.
The person exposed to tear gas experiences intense tightness in the chest and the person becomes prone to serious injury.
It can include stomach irritation, vomiting, retching and diarrhea.
Tear gas exposed individuals experience severe long-term outcomes like severe inflammation that can take weeks to recover and can also cause chemical burns to the skin.
