With a bang in your head, the book starts off with an unbridled passion of a guy named Rahul who hears the sound of bangles on the banks of Ganges and turns around to figure it out as the very sound of it is appealing. The book "Story Shots and Poetry Pints" will take you back to the world of literature where you will come across a number of short stories and poems that will leave you to quench for more, giving you a glimpse of what we have lost over the years, literature.
While I tried taking all the hints in from the very index of the book, it craved me more to go through each of the stories and poems that I must say have been penned down beautifully.
A compilation of short stories and poetry the book is dotted by an aspiring script writer Akhilesh Panigrahi who took the stride in life to become a writer. He is also the nephew of Filmfare award winning Bollywood Art director Sukant Panigrahy. The book covers an array of emotions like love, separation, romance, musical journeys, unexpressed liking, motherhood, environmental awareness, and homosexuality in the fashion world.
Akhilesh Panigrahi brought to life multiple characters with multiple stories through his compilation. Instead of focusing and draining out a few characters and stretching them into a book, he wrote a number of stories describing a million struggles people like us face.
There is a story called 'Seven Hues of Life' which describes the journey of a guy who leaves behind a disciplined professional life to travel the world, enjoy his passion for photography and experience different jobs in different locations of the country. He meets up a similar kind of girl in the journey as the story unfolds. Then there's a poem called "stupid sassy sweetheart" where the poet depicts an unwavering devotion towards a woman who might not even give a look back but he reminds us that love goes beyond that and that it is ok to be the only one in love.
The Dilkashi Damsels is a real story of the complexities of life of two sisters, where one of them was God gifted, and the other was born deaf and dumb, and their struggle as they set out to achieve the same goal.
There are various other stories where love flourishes in different forms. It's always a comforting feeling to read about the chase and the way life unfolds for people, and that's what the writer has kept in mind.
Akhilesh always wanted to write about the changes brought in with time, counting in the environmental changes to the ones in the thinking of the young crowd. And so, he thought to jot down stories revolving around passion, profession, dreams, relationships or even sex. Through one of his stories, he has explained the importance of youth in transforming the environmental scenario of our country into sustainable development. With another heartwrenching story called 'The Dilkashi Damsels,' he aimed at breaking down the stereotypes prevailing in our society about homosexuality and the LGBT community by portraying two mutually attracted female characters from the glamorous fashion world.
The book is the kind you can finish in a day; I did too but also the kind you could not let out of your mind. It has beautifully captured stories that will open your thoughts to accepting things happening around you. It's recommended and would love if you people can just give it a read and ask your friends to do that too.
...that is lost somewhere, just turn the pages of this book and you will have the ultimate experience.
