Abuse against anyone is bad, and especially bad when it's with a child. But many-a-time, people confuse between child abuse and harmless disciplining. Some kids act out a little more than others, and it is sometimes important to use physical forms of punishment so as to bring them in line before they're so off-track that it's too late. However, sometimes, kids don't see it this way. They only see it as abuse, instead of understanding that it's only a consequence of their own actions.
