Just like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo is also a well-respected football player. In 2008, the Real Madrid and Portugal National Team player scored the FIFA World Player of the Year award, along with the prestigious Ballon d'Or. By 2014, he had won the Ballon d'Or three times.
However, life wasn't always great for Ronaldo. In fact, he was just a poor boy back then. Read on!
He had three siblings, and he was the youngest among all of the children. Sadly, his family was incredibly poor.
Ronaldo's parents realized that the only way for him to achieve success would be by being great in football.
By playing football, the boy had the chance actually to focus on something and celebrate the victory.
Ronaldo's mother served as a cleaner and a cook while his father tended the gardens of other people.
This was caused by his regular alcoholism activity. Cristiano Ronaldo actually recommended his father to get to rehab several times, but he rejected those suggestions.
When he was just 10 years old, Cristiano Ronaldo became part of the Andorinha football team. Since his father served the team as a kit man, he was able to join them.
In just one season, Cristiano Ronaldo managed to progress through five different divisions at Sporting. When he had his first senior game, he managed to have two goals.
This could have easily ended his football career. Thankfully, sporting helped him have surgery.
Teams such as Liverpool, FC Barcelona, and Wenger were interested in him. After some time, Manchester United's team also began to approach Ronaldo to join their team. Soon, Manchester was able to get Ronaldo for a staggering 12 million pounds.
Of course, the rest is history.
