Sex is an extreme pleasure that is meant to relax you from your stressful life. But have you ever wondered what parts of your brain are active while you are having sex or orgasm? There are things that your brain do while you have your orgasm and that proves that sex is absolutely mind-blowing.
That's why Dr. Barry R. Komisaruk (Ph.D.), a behavioural neuroscientist, decided to perform an experiment in order to study the brain during an orgasm. He asked a few women to masturbate while inside an MRI machine and what he found out proved that sex is absolutely mind-blowing.
Check out what Dr Barry learned from his experiment.
Dr Barry claimed that all you need is a simple touch for the brain activity to begin to light up. As a result of his experiment, he found out that the clitoris, vagina, and cervix can stimulate the parts of the cortex.
Komisaruk also says that clitoris, vagina, and cervix can produce orgasm individually and stimulating several at once can make the orgasm more intense and more pleasurable.
Dr Komisaruk has been studying about sex and orgasm for more than 20 years, and he says that still there are things that are left undiscovered. He found out that the limbic system is the network of neurones that receive signals from the genetical stimulation and thus leads to intense orgasm.
While you are in the middle of masturbation some parts of your brain get turned on. Especially the fantasy and the area responsible for feelings and emotional expression.
The anterior cingulate cortex and the insular cortex are the areas associated with pain. During sex, the tolerance for pain increases and thus painful activities like biting, scratching, pulling hair, etc. gets ignored.
Sex is as painful as it is pleasurable and that's why your facial expressions turn into painful one. But you don't have to feel bad for your facial expressions because ultimately it's your brain making you do this.
When you are close to climax your hypothalamus and nucleus accumbens gets extremely activated. This makes your heart race faster, your pupils dilate, you moan louder, and you begin to shake violently. It's an altogether different experience.
Oxytocin is the love or cuddle hormone and gets released as soon as you start masturbating. And while masturbating your uterine contracts and releases. It's also because of Oxytocin.
The feeling of reward and sex makes us an addict of more and more sex. This happens because of chemical dopamine and chocolates and drugs also activate it. Dopamine makes us crave for something, and that's why once you have sex you craves for it more.
It is said that you burn a lot of calories and it needs a lot of energy while having sex so the after effects of sex on your brain is that your brain becomes lazy and falls into sleep mode. And as soon as you decides to lie down, your brain falls into lazy mode.
So this is what goes on all the time while having sex or orgasm.
