Four friends planned for a crazy weekend at the lakeside. Unfortunately, three of them get locked down in a hot sauna. What was supposed to be a full weekend of fun turns out to be the biggest tragedy of their life. Every minute and so every degree matters. INSPIRATION : 3 friends got locked in a sauna for ten long hours, while their friend forgot about them. Fortunately, all came back alive.
The Mothman Prophecies, is a story of a town called Point Pleasant at West Virginia. The story unfolds with the death of protagonist, John Klein's wife Mary. She dies in a car accident. When investigated, Klein finds out some scribbled sketches of a winged creature, she saw a night before. As the story unfolds, Klein has very confusing encounters and then suddenly he would hear prophecies from a voice. It turns out, they were all turning to be true. The last prophecy he hears was the crash of the Silver Bridge. INSPIRATION : A huge winged creature, with red eyes and no face was spotted by over 200 individuals in a span of over 13 months. The mothman as they called it, was a phenomenon whose existence is debatable. The Silver Bridge, connecting Pleasant point and Ohio collapsed and there were never any plausible reasons for it to happen, rather than the local legend of the Mothman.
An American logger mysteriously disappears after a UFO sighting in 1975. He comes back to retaliate his horrendous experiences of being tortured by aliens. INSPIRATION: The Walton Experience, a book by Travis Walton, recounts the experiences of a man who was supposedly abducted by an alien spaceship in 1975.
The story of this movie is so painful that you would never wish for it to be were real. The movie is a story of a woman Carla Moran, a single mother of one daughter and three sons. She lives in a house where she is violently raped by an invisible spirit. She tries explaining her situation to her best friend, a psychologist and many others, but no one would believe her. Then at a bookstore she meets two parapsychologists who were skeptical at first but then agreed to help her. INSPIRATION : Frank De Felitta, wrote the novel with the same name. His inspiration was Doris Bither in Culver City, California, USA. The book is a collection of her horrific experiences of being raped by unseen forces.
This movie was is one of a kind. Such horror movies are definitely made once in a century. The movie revolves around a serial killer Henry and his friend Otis. Henry's love interest is Otis's sister Becky. She was traumatized by her husband and brought to their flat by Otis. Henry, murders many people all over the country with different weapons. It was impossible for the police to trace that these murders were actually a work of a serial killer. Every new murder led police to scratch their heads. Movie unfolds with many vicious executions and in the end dismembered body of Otis and Becky. INSPIRATION : The movie is inspired by a real life serial Killer called Henry Lee Lucas, who had a troubled childhood. His life as a child was a perfect 'Monster Making' blueprint. His first murder was that of her mother, who molested him as child. He confessed over 600 murders, though he was convicted of only 11.
In the movie an 11 year old girl is living with her parents. They notice a man stalking their family for weeks. On being asked, this man tells them that their daughter(little Ivy) is a reincarnation of his daughter- Audrey Rose, who died with her mother in a fierce car accident. Ivy, was born just two minutes after the accident in which Audrey died. Ivy, would respond to the man when called 'Audrey'. The story reveals many such incidents, where the man helps Ivy to calm down during her nightmares. She used to have nightmares of being in a car accident. The girl faces sufferings and outbursts until she dies during a hypnotism session. The trauma of the accident that Audrey faced, little Ivy could not take it. INSPIRATION : Frank De Felitta, writer of the novel and the movie script was inspired to write this story. His son one day, played the family piano with utmost perfection while he had never had any classes or training before. When he talked to occultist, he came to know that this is a skill he had in his previous birth, and this what they call an 'incarnation leak.'
Zombie voodoo flick, the Serpent and the Rainbow is a story loosely based on a novel by Wade Davis. Anthropologist, Dennis Alan visits Haiti to search for a drug that renders the subject in consideration paralyzed but conscious. This would lead him to the discovery of a new anesthesia. But as the story unfolds, it gets tough for him to decide what is real and what is superstition. INSPIRATION : Aforementioned, the story is based on novel by Wade Davis, who investigated the inquisitive case of Clairvius Narcisse. He was declared dead on 1962 and consequently buried. But, later it turned out that Narcisse walked from his grave, weird but alive. He recounted his experience of a drug that made him appear dead, but when he was buried, he was alive.
A mentally challenged prostitute is charged for murdering 6 men. On her behalf she would say that at one point of time all men tried to rape and attack her. INSPIRATION: Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute was hanged to death in the year 2002 for killing 6 men. The lot of the movie is inspired by the unsolved mystery of her life.
Ezra Cobbs is a rural farmer. He lived with his mother, who was very religious. Since childhood, he made him hate women. After the death of his mother, he was really disturbed. He could feel that she was alive, so he dug her out and restored her body to decorate his house. And so he did it with so many other deceased bodies. And then he went out of control, he started luring women and the killing them. Because he had really great ideas to decorate his house. INSPIRATION : The movie plot is inspired by the life Ed Gein, also called America's most notorious serial killer. Though, movie uses the facts but they were nudged them a bit to get the required plot.
A deadly story about cannibalism. How situations lead a man to become a human eater. Captain John Boyd, the protagonist discovers about men who eat other men at a new place. INSPIRATION: The case of Alfred Packer was the inspiration of the antagonist of the movie. He was set on trail in the year 1874 for cannibalism. He was put behind bars for 40 years thereafter.
Tom was homeless, jobless and drunk this night. Suddenly, he is hit by a woman called Brandy. Tom is stuck in the windshield and Brandy says she would help. But, afraid of police and all the explanation she leaves him in her garage and decides to murder him. Then what follows is a series of events, where Tom somehow manages to escape. It is one of the most scariest movie you will ever see. INSPIRATION: Chante Jawan Mallard, hit a homeless man in 2001. She left him in her garage to die and did not help him. She was sentenced 50 years in prison
A classic exploitation-horror movie- The Hills Have Eyes is one of those movies that still sends chills whenever watched. It is a story of a family who on a road trip gets stranded on Nevada Desert. This family then becomes the prey of deformed cannibal clan led by Papa Jupiter. INSPIRATION : Alexander "Sawney" Bean was a semi-mythical clan in Scotland, executed for eating flesh and organs of more than 1,000 people. This act of cannibalism was responsible for many innocent deaths and the inspiration for the movie.
Dead Ringers was a story of two brothers- Elliot and Beverly Mantle. Extremely successful gynecologists, these identical twins used to run a lucrative clinic in town. Elliot, the smarter one seduces women with his charm and the two used to share women, without them having a hint about it. Following such events, enters Clarie, a troubled actress. Elliot dazzles her and asks Beverly to be with her. Beverly, the shy one of the two begins to like her. When Clarie, got to know about their intentions she drugged Beverly and dragged both the brothers to a gruesome end. INSPIRATION : Stewart and Cyril Marcus, two identical gynecologist twins were found dead in their flat, when they withdrew taking addictive drugs.
