"A history in which every particular incident may be true may, on the whole, be false."
~Thomas Babington Macaulay
I grew up listening to the song "dedi hume azadi bina khadak bina dhal sabarmati ke sant tune kar diya kamal" but is it so? Did Gandhi play a significant role in India's freedom struggle? Or did he delayed our independence? It's time to unveil a few truths about a person whose doctrine of nonviolence is nothing but a political propaganda. Some facts are nothing but a myth, a myth which is told again and again over the course of time, to sound real.
'I apologize if you find my words bitter.' I again repeat, I apologize.
Mahatma Gandhi is one of the most-discussed public figures of the twentieth century. Many other freedom fighters contributed equally to the freedom but why Gandhi gets a particular importance over other freedom fighters? How can one person defeat the mighty British empire? Time to think now? Don't put the cart before the horse and if you're doing this, you're one of the intellectual idiots of the modern time. It may be a bit harsh for you to believe. But before you start bashing at me, please give it a thought.
So Gandhi was a great, great, great man. He was a saint with some negativities. As the wheel of time passes away, I started believing that "You can't be a saint until unless you're a sinner" and "Mahatma" of the world's largest democracy perfectly fits in it. When you talk to history, it talks to you back. Even a pure water has some impurity in it. I'm not questioning his character, after all, I'm no one to do that. I'm just uncovering the truth. Whenever you speak the truth, you have to pay for it. Similarly, I'm ready to be an evil in the eyes of solipsistic.
I have been a critic of Gandhi, but even I admit that there are many sacrifices and efforts made by him which can't be kept aside.
Have a look!
How can he withdraw the movement which united the Indian front for the first time? How can he generalize the actions of a few to the entire 30 crore population at that point???
"Hitler killed five million Jews. It is the greatest crime of our time. But the Jews should have offered themselves to the butcher's knife. They should have thrown themselves into the sea from cliffs. I believe in hara-kiri. I do not believe in its militaristic connotations, but it is a heroic method. That would have been heroism. It would have aroused the world and the people of Germany to the evils of Hitler's violence, especially in 1938, before the war. As it is, they succumbed anyway in their millions."
Gandhi could have put more pressure on Irwin to release Bhagat Singh. The Gandhi-Erwin Pact played a significant role in twisting British Government decision in Singh's execution, but he failed to do so which left a black spot on his political career. He has been accused of making a half-hearted effort.
"It is not the British people who are ruling India, but it is modern civilization through its railways, telegraphs, telephone, and almost every other invention has been claimed to be a triumph of civilization ... Medical science is the concentrated essence of black magic ...Hospitals are the instruments that the Devil has been using for his own purpose, in order to keep his hold on his kingdom ... If there were no hospitals for venereal diseases or even for consumptives, we would have less consumption and less sexual vice amongst us. India's salvation consists in unlearning what she has learnt during the past fifty years or so. The railways, telegraphs, hospitals, lawyers, doctors and such like all have to go."
Happy Gandhi Jayanti everyone!
P.S. I again apologize if you disagree in some of my logics above.
