Parched Movie Review: A Must Watch For Every Indian

"Mard Ban Naa Chor, Pehle Insaan Banna Seekhle" - Rani (A Character in Parched)

Well, the movie tried to take me on a ride to a dry village (most of the part of the film is shot in that location) so giving the movie the title Parched is justified.

The director Leena tried setting the theme right in the beginning. She introduced characters one after one, which made the movie easy to understand.

The flow of the story is perfect, and the  director managed quickly to take us on the journey of each character's core. I was not bored while watching the movie, but the intensity that those scenes should have carried and their impact was missing at some places.

Winning awards and recognition in more than 12 film festivals, Parched is a journey of women in a male dominant society, and brings to you the challenges, problems they go through every day in their life. Leena tells you about the most heart-wrenching stories of women that are still found in some hidden parts of India.

Some of the shots taken in the movie redefined women and their beauty. For few of locations, shots are taken from a different perspective. As for Rusell's work in the movie, he may get to see his name again on the silver screen. I thoroughly enjoyed the simplest, yet so refreshing visuals in the film.

Music

Music

Hitesh Sonik was in charge of the music department, and I must say 'Well Done, Hitesh!'. The music composed by Hitesh and the background score with which the movie opened was very happening and melodious.

The music in the film is a treat to your ears. It starts with a very happy note.

The cast of Parched

The cast of Parched

The cast includes Radhika Apte as Lajjo, Tannishtha Chatterji as Rani, Sumeet Vyas as Kishan, Surveen Chawla as Bijili, and Child artists Riddhi Sen as Gulab, and Lehar Khan as Janaki.

Every character is built with a lot of love and hard work. Every word they speak takes the characters journey to a whole new level and moves us forward to the overall experience of their stories. I connected with the journey of all the three women as they lead the film from the front. Surveen Chawla's character stands out in the film as she is the main thread that holds the others together.

A must watch for all the young actors and directors.

Parched Ratings: 3.5 / 5

Parched Ratings: 3.5 / 5

The story of three women who are a part of a male dominant society in a village that is Parched. One of them is Rani that runs her household on her own, Bijili earns her living through prostitution and a dance bar, and Lajjo, who is suffering from domestic violence and infertility. These three women fight their problems against the will of the society to live the life of their dreams.

One thing is for sure, all the off-beat cinema lovers are going to love this movie, and the remaining audience should at least try and experience this journey.  The script is nicely staged!

The roads they followed together, the obstacles they faced, and for the result of their journey throughout, watch this off-beat cinematic experience in theaters.

Coming weeks will tell us about the box-office collection, but Parched earns our  3.5 / 5.
