The Price Is Right has been around for ages, having started in the year 1956. Unlike quizzing game shows, this show required its contestants to correctly guess the price of items. And because of this format of the show, there isn't much a contestant can do to cheat his way to victory. But one guy did! And what he did leave such an impact on the show that they ended up changing their entire system and format.
Here's the entire story.
The Price Is Right has been around for ages, having first aired in 1956!
The show was earlier hosted by Bob Barker, and while Drew Carey is doing a good job at the reins now, it's popular opinion that the show was best in the Bob Barker era.
The contestants are required to correctly guess the prices of items to win.
But Terry Kniess shocked everyone when he made it to the last round and won.
Before the show, he used to work as a weatherman and casino surveillance, which got him obsessed with finding patterns.
Terry managed to win a Big Green Egg Smoker and grill, but he was far from satisfied with just that.
Terry and his wife watched every episode for four months before Terry came on the show, and figured out a pattern!
..remained same over the years as the same brands were used on the show. So he and his wife got down to memorizing the prices!
He used his wedding anniversary and wife's birthday to come up with a number, and guess what, it was exactly correct!
Terry was checked for signs of cheating, such as using a smartphone. But they found nothing on him, and he got to keep the money! Whoa!
The producers' minds were blown when they realized that Terry had won fairly, and so changed the whole system itself!
