Poveglia - The Island of the dead is located right between the beautiful city of Venice and Lido. It's known as the island of the dead.
History of this island dates back to 18th century. At that time, every ship before entering venice had to cross Poveglia as it was the only check point for goods, trade and tourist and then this haunted story happened.
It was one dark night, when two ships reported on the Island, where two thirds of the population was suffering from plauge. Scared to death, natives decided to leave the ships at bay and use the island as burrial ground for the people who were suffering. Children and women were all left on the island. Napolean at the time decided to dig pits and slay all the people suffering from this unfortunate disease. The historic church was converted in lighthouse and the beautiful island was changed into a burrial mound.
So, this beautiful island was isolated. It was not the check point anymore. And by this time, it is wiped off every tourist destination for it is believed to be haunted by the souls of the dead.
There is one more interesting legend that follows, if you love a ghost story follow us with these uncanny pictures of island taken by some really brave fellas!
In 1922 the Island began to house a medical facility. A mental asylum. For once people thought maybe now everything about the island will change. But this was just the start.
Soon the patients of the asylum began to hear distinct voices, voices through the walls. They began to see people and smokey shadows.
And so it happened, nobody believed the people who were already proved to be insane. Ask yourself, what would you do?
Above that, the doc who was in-charge of the hospital was the evil doctor of the story. He was determined to find the solution and the reason behind their madness.
He experimented on his patients. And with what....wait till you find out.
With hammer, basic knifes and hand drills. He carried his neurological operations in the abandoned lighthouse. He butchered his patients and was merciless. Soon, he also started hearing the distant sounds and there came a day when he jumped of his experiment laboratory.
One of the nurse found him chocking on his own blood, while he was still alive. Then she claims to see a pale white snow that grabbed him. He was dead that very moment. Looks like a real ghost story!
