She was heartbroken to know that her baby is suffering from Mermaid syndrome.
Fetus lacked bladder and had a stunted liver.
She opted for termination because the doctors informed her that there are very few chances of baby's survival.
The causes behind sirenomelia are still unknown, but this rare disorder affects one in every 100,000 babies.
Reports suggest that there are only two survivors of this rare syndrome in the world.
Fortunately, this mermaid baby managed to survive after her birth.
She was born in Maine, in 1999 and had dialysis and several kidney transplants. Luckily, she survived despite all the odds. A documentary made by TLC 'Extraordinary People: Mermaid Child' depicts the hardships faced by Shiloh and her family. Unfortunately, she died at the age of 10.
