This new way of losing weight is gaining popularity in Australia.
It involves standing in a cryotherapy tube for 3 minutes to burn 800 calories.
Kelly Edwards, a 35-year-old mother and ballet teacher, from Ettalong Beach, underwent cryotherapy to get rid of body ache.
Kelly's legs got firmer and toned because of the treatment. She said, "The only thing I can put it down to is this. I've not changed my diet or exercise, but I've lost four kilos in a month or so. I noticed the difference particularly on the back of the legs, which appeared firmer."
The temperature in cryotherapy chamber drops till minus 140 degree Celsius within few seconds. Though the session lasts for 3 minutes only, it is damn freezing.
Three minutes session provides best weight loss results, and thus the cryosauna automatically shuts off after 3 minutes for safety reasons. However, you can't stay in the chamber whole day long because you might fall prey to hypothermia.
Kelly further explained, "It's not like getting into a cold shower - it takes a while to build up, but by the end of the three minutes you're ready to hop out."
CryoFitness founder Peter Watson explained, "When using the cryosauna your body is working overtime to protect the vital organs from the cold. It does this by pushing the blood from your extremities to your core. Then once you leave the cryosauna your body is working even harder to warm up again. This process burns up to 800 calories. It also gives your skin a boost of collagen and protects the breakdown of existing collagen."
