The population of India admires follows celebrities as if they are a religion. From their past to their present, their style to their hairdo, their voice to their walk, we observe every aspect of their lifestyle. Indeed, Bollywood celebrities are the ones we look up to when it comes to fashion. Whatever they wear becomes a new statement from the very next day.
From going on a date to attending a wedding, most of the time, the attire we decide to wear is inspired by the stars. But have you ever wondered what really happens to the costume that they wear?
Of course, some popular ones are auctioned, but what happens to the rest? Are they reused or stacked and thrown later?
You will be shocked to know what happens with those dresses:
When it comes to reusing, not every production house believes in this rule. But yes, many of them store the clothes for future use.
Sometimes, when a very high-end designer is hired for any particular movie, they usually take back the clothes designed by them. When celebrity designers like Manish Malhotra or Nikhil Thampi design any outfit, it often turns out to be gorgeous. If you remember Anushka Sharma's emerald green gown which she wore in the movie Bombay Velvet, the designers took the gown back with them.
Clothes are stored in trunks and later mixed and matched, and used in other movies by extras.
Some designers even get the outfits unstitched and redesign it from scratch for the same production house, but this is done with utmost care and requires a lot of creativity.
At times, outfits are either given to the actors or other cast members as a souvenir.
Remember the outfits worn by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajinikanth in the movie Robot? The outfits became so iconic that they took the fashion industry by storm. The outfits were later auctioned online to raise funds for an NGO.
Also, many times costumes are sold to thrift stores to raise fund for charity and church.
Actors sometimes retain the outfits to cherish the role performed by them.
That's all folks!
