Did You Know You Can Now Edit Genes As Well?
Don't you ever wish for such discoveries that would make your life easier within a blink of an eye? Or don't you think of such inventions that would work like a magical wand?
Can such innovations ever happen where you can feel rejuvenated after just three hours of sleep or voluntarily turn off your sensations of pain? No wonder everybody must have imagined for that.
But here is a medical trick with bacterial DNA which is allowing scientists to use a whole new kind of DNA manipulation.
There is a gene editing tool that's changing the world.
It is known as CRISPR - Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats.
It's all about advanced gene therapy and splicing.
It is bringing ideas straight into reality.
They look like short palindromes repeating over and over with slight variations.
It refers to the unusual DNA sequences that help protect organisms by identifying threats and attacking them.
So, can we edit anyone's DNA now?
CRISPR is not there yet.
But it can identify genetic problems before birth and disrupt the faulty genes so that they cannot do any damage. It can also be used to safely alter DNA to resist HIV infection.
