Director Ashutosh Gowariker, who is known for specializing in the genre of period romance films is all set with yet another period romance, 'Mohenjo Daro' is the most awaited and anticipated movie of the Bollywood. The director is still remembered for his legendary film 'Lagaan.' He has come a long way since his directorial debut with 'Pehla Nasha' 1993.
And the icing on the cake is, Ashutosh is the only Bollywood director who has bought his film 'Lagaan' to the Oscar Ceremony, which no other mainstream director has done in decades. Will the history repeat? Well, that will be clear too. Comparing his upcoming movie 'Mohenjo Daro' to 'Lagaan' may sound weird, but there are some prominent similarities which we can't ignore.

If you have seen the trailer of 'Mohenjo Daro', it will remind you to the sets of 'Lagaan'. The sandy and historic set says it all. The surprising part is yet to come. Both the films 'Lagaan' and 'Mohenjo Daro' were filmed in Kunariya, a small district of Kutch Gujarat. The magnificent sets of 'Mohenjo Daro' was constructed on the same field where once the cricket pitch of 'Lagaan' existed.
Moreover, the cemented platform created to make the cricket pavilion in 'Lagaan' is still there in Kutch.
In 'Lagaan' Ashutosh introduced Gracy Singh and yet another beautiful actress Pooja Hegde is making her debut with Ashutosh's film 'Mohenjo Daro'. Gracy impressed everyone with her acting skills and now the industry has high hopes from Pooja as well.
Aamir made his Bollywood debut with Ashutosh in 1995 'Bazzi', 'Lagaan' was Aamir's second film with the director Ashutosh. And same goes with Hrithik, 'Jodhaa Akbar' was Hrithik's first film with Ashutosh, 'Mohenjo Daro' is his second collaboration with the director.
In 'Lagaan' we've seen Aamir playing the role of a farmer Bhuvan, who wanted to make his villagers Lagaan free. And interestingly, Hrithik will be seen as Sarman in 'Mohenjo Daro' essaying the role of an Indigo Farmer.
'Mohenjo Daro' is selected as the closing film of the 69th edition of the Locarno Film Festival which will be held in Switzerland from August 3 to August 13. Interestingly, 'Lagaan' was the first Indian film which was screened there in 2001.
Have you noticed the resemblance in the characters of Bhuvan and Sarman? Both the characters are playing the role of struggling farmers and have a similar goal to put an end to the treachery of the rulers Captain Andrew Russell in 'Lagaan' and Maham in 'Mohenjo Daro'. And what to say about their costume? The picture itself says it all.
Except the cast in 'Mohenjo Daro', Ashutosh Gowariker is working with the same crew members and technicians who have worked for 'Lagaan'. Producer - Siddharth Roy Kapur, Music Director - A.R. Rahman, Lyricist - Javed Akhtar, Designer - Neeta Lulla, to name a few.
'Lagaan' was so impressive and opulent movie that pulled the crowd to the theater. The audience has the same hopes with 'Mohenjo Daro' which is releasing tomorrow.
