Friendship Day is a day to celebrate your friendship and freedom which you enjoy with your buddies. This day has been celebrated in several South American countries for many years. Do you know when and where the first World Friendship Day was proposed? Well , it was in Paraguay in the year 1958. Friendship day is a day to enjoy a relationship called friendship which is in some ways greater than any other relationship you share.
One question which always strikes me on Friendship Day is that - Why do we celebrate it on the first Sunday of August?
With the devastating effects of First World War coming up and an increase in hostilities, mistrust, and hatred between countries there was hatred everywhere and revenge was what everyone had on their minds. Friendship needed to spread.
After the 1st World War there was a greater need for friendship not only among nations but also among individuals.
In 1997 the United Nations named Winnie The Pooh as the world's Ambassador of Friendship.
