You are about to read a story about a very brave Dachshund dog named Maria. Maria did not have the best start in her life because Dachshunds have trouble in their backs due to the long elongated body. If these issues are not dealt properly, it can lead to severe problems in their backs and hind legs.

The same was the case with Maria. She had problems and due to neglection, it became serious. Ultimately it led to temporary paralysis from the ribs down. During such conditions, she was bred by her owners forcibly.
Breeding made her body weaker and time only worsened her condition. Maria's owners realized that C-section was the only way Maria would be able to deliver her litter. The C-section would cost around $3000. The owners didn't want to pay this amount, so they decided to abandon Maria.
When she was left abandoned by the owner, she was rescued by "Friends of Emma" which is a rescue organization for dogs in Texas set up by Elizabeth Hart and her partner Kyle. They took Maria in and saved her life.
Upon her first much-needed visit to the vet after pregnancy, Maria was diagnosed with anemia which was due to several flues. Along with infections, she was also terrified for her life and life of her unborn babies. But she fought hard and overcame everything.
In the end, Maria was able to deliver all her puppies by C-section and all the puppies were safe and healthy. The babies were named Kurt, Louisa, Rolfe, Gretal, Werner, Leisl and Friedrich.
