Ever Wondered Why Do Some Power Plugs Have 3 Prongs Instead Of 2?
You might have wondered why some power plugs have 3 prongs instead of 2. Even some of the curious souls might have asked electricians about this. And, I'm 100% sure that you've got the sweet little answer that this is an earth prong
But what does it mean? What's the use of this "earth prong?"
Let's find out about it and also, what other problem we've created because of this "earth prong?"
Why Do Every Power Button Have The Same Symbol And What Does It Mean?
Why do some plugs have 2 prongs?
Well, it's all about safety. But how?
Let's start with basics.
Two wires which every plug have can be divided into the hot wire and neutral wire. In which hot wire carries the current and neutral wire is to complete the circuit.
Now talking about power distribution system, which provides the electricity to your home.
What if, there's an excess current?
Yeah, you guessed it right, all the appliances in your house will burn.
That's why the extra load is transferred to the earth so that your appliances could be saved from burning from the extra current.
But we've created another problem because of this.
Earlier, we would get the electric shock only when we touch both the wires.
Because we get the electric shock only when the electrical circuit is complete and the current flows through our body.
Now after earthing connection, you're always indirectly connected to the earth i.e., one wire.
That results in getting the electric shock even when you touch the single wire.
That's where the third prong come to our help.
Because in metal appliances...
Sometimes a hot wire could come loose.
Because of the following reasons-
And this third prong transfers that current to the earth and saves you from an electric shock by touching the metal.
So, you didn't even know how many times this third prong saved your life.
Time to thank this third prong and also to download the
