It is necessary for every person to sleep 8 hours a day to remain healthy. The pattern in which a person accomplishes sleeping in a single chunk of 7-8 hours is known as monophasic sleeping method. A majority of the population follows this sleeping pattern.
One guy decided to experiment with his sleeping method and slept only 5 hours a day.

This guy experimented with his sleep by following Polyphasic sleeping method. It is a sleeping method in which person rest in multiple phases and need to survive on less sleep throughout the day.
In this sleeping pattern, people take six 20-minute naps throughout the day and sleep needs to be accomplished in 2 hours. It means the person following this sleeping pattern remains awake for 20 years of his life.
He decided to follow the "Everyman sleep schedule" suggested by polyphasic sleeper Jackson Nexhip.
According to this schedule, a person sleeps for 4 to 5 hours at night and takes two 20-minute naps during the day.
Doctor strictly warned the guy not to opt for the polyphasic sleeping schedule as it doesn't suit the majority of the population.
Day 1 and Day 2 were very tough for the guy.
The guy started exhausting quickly due to lack of sleep.
Some of these effects include slower reaction time, memory loss, cognitive issues, lack of creativity and increased irritability.
He stated, "I am so brain dead right now, I am incapable of doing anything."
This kind of sleeping pattern can work only for some genetically designed people.
