# Experts Have Failed To Solve This Flower Maths Puzzle, Will You Try?

The year of 2016 has undoubtedly been the year of puzzles, most of them connected to natural objects. We took 'Find the Panda' challenge, 'Count the number of horses' puzzle and what not! Even though most of us are adults, shuffling our lives between tedious office work and short panic attacks of realising adulthood, these mind-scratching yet cute puzzles send us down the memory lane, only to realise we are madly busy solving them!

Facebook page Trending in China came up with another mind-boggling puzzle this week which has already been liked and received comments more than 2000 times! Like everyone, I tried to solve it too, and just like most of us, came up with the wrong answer. Let's see how much time you take to find the correct answer to this 'flower puzzle'!

#### Everyone started solving the puzzle using basic BODMAS rules.

The most common (and according to BODMAS), the answer was 102.

#### But since the Facebook page didn't give the green signal to 102, a few users started solving the puzzle in a different direction.

And as expected, the range of anticipated answers widened from 20 to 'one billion.' Yes, it did.

#### A few people eventually noticed something odd in the last line of flowers, and that's when the most common answer started drifting from 102 to..

Somewhere in the 80's. Basically, in the last line, the blue flower had only four petals instead of five liked the rest of the rows.

#### And then came the correct answer with an explanation!

Using BODMAS, it was clear that the value of each red flower was 20 and that of a blue flower (with 5 petals) was 5. Using these two, the value of the yellow flower came out to be 2. But, the last row had a twist in it. The answer, was 81.

#### Since the blue flower with 5 petals had the value 5, the blue flower in the last row with 4 petals had the value 4!

Thus, in the final line, a yellow flower (value: 2) was added to a red flower (value: 20) to a blue flower with four petals (value: 4). Hence, the equation reduces to: 2 + 20 x 4= 81! The final answer is 81!
