Meet Mr. Sandeen Desai, a former Marine engineer and world's most wonderful man you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. And that's just an understatement.
After all that I have told about him, let us think over a minute and try to understand why would a Prof, beg on local trains in Mumbai. The reason is pretty simple and it still would leave you hanging. So it all started in 2010, when he had a what we could easily call an 'outrageous' idea. He got on the local trains of Mumbai, with a box that had the name of his trust on it and started asking people to help him.
Sandeep Desai's trust is called Shloka Missionaries, which was established in the year 2001 to provide education to underprivileged children. In the year 2005, he set up a school in Goregaon (East), Mumbai. The school was strategically located, and over 700 students joined.
But later in 2009, he discontinued the school under the RTE Act. He and his co-trustees under this act tried to admit all their students in private schools because according to the act 12% seats in the private schools were supposed to reserve for poor children for free.
Prof. Desai was featured and loved by millions of people all over the country and he still is, but did the funds for everything he wanted to come by, easy? No. They did not. That's when the idea of reaching out to people in the trains hit him and he decided to attempt something that was never been done!
Just think about it, how difficult it is to talk to a stranger for you? Just imagine how tough would it had been for Mr. Desai, 56 now to ask for help from complete strangers. But when the cause is right, things fall into place, don't they?
One school is in Yavatmal district in Maharashtra and three in Sipur, Sadakadi and Naijhar villages in Udaipur. The one in Yavatmal district has as of now, 180 students and 5 teachers.
Lets help those in need, let's help Mr. Desai and all those underprivileged children all across the globe. You can reach out to him personally here - Sandeep Desai
