Aimee Copeland was the star of Georgia after she was attacked by a flesh eating bacteria and survived the attack miraculously. But sadly, the bacteria had invaded deep into her tissues and both her hands and one leg had to be removed in order to contain the infection.
Even then, Aimee stayed positive and hopeful. She's now an idol figure and star of many people with disabilities and she makes it her job to help people who suffer from disabilities.
Let's check out her story.
She's proud of her beach body even though it isn't perfect. She says, 'flaws don't define who you are'. Rightly said, Aimee. There is beauty in everything.
She was treated for the wound and sent back home. Only after a few days did she start feeling weak and pale. She was brought back to the hospital and she was diagnosed with 'necrotising fascitis'. She was only 24 then.
They had to amputate both her hands, one entire leg and the foot on the other leg so that the infection doesn't spread systemically. It was a very bleak chance for Aimee but she still recovered.
She has 2 master's degrees and runs counsels in order to help people with disabilities. She has been the spokesperson in seminars in order to provide help to people who have also survived traumatic experiences.
She had to suffer the grief of amputation and she struggled to accept her body after the infection. But recently she uploaded a picture of herself on the beach and she couldn't look happier.
Her family, friends and millions of people online support her unconditionally and are proud of her.
We wish her all the good luck for her endless struggles. I can't even imagine what it must have been like for her to overcome so many obstacles. She's definitely an idol for me as well.
