Miss Universe 1952, the very 1st Miss Universe pageant, was held on 28 June 1952 at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium, California, USA. 30 contestants competed for the crown. And among those contestants, Indrani Rahman also made it to the Top 30 giving everyone a tough competition.
I am sure if it wasn't Miss India Indrani Rahman, we wouldn't have had Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta and Aishwarya Rai receiving honor and respect at the Miss Universe pageant in the later years.

Did you notice something unusual in the picture?
Not only did she carry herself well in the swimsuit, she also grabbed everyone's attention with the bindi and gajra adding a desi swag.
Indrani was the first one to represent India in 1952.
She was a trained classical dancer in Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, and Odissi.
She was the first dancer on a national tour by the Asia Society, and also performed for the US president, John F. Kennedy.
She also performed for Queen Elizabeth II.
She was also awarded other prestigious awards like Tarakanth Das Award and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
She taught at Harvard University and other American Universities.
She settled in New York with her mother and continued to popularize Indian classical dance form.
A well-known architect, Habib Rahman, was married to Indrani.
Though she is no more with us today, she will remain in our hearts and memories.
