I've never really been a fan of doing my laundry, especially when it's tossing my brand new garment into the washing machine. I always have this fear that it won't be looking the same after a spin. But laundry is something you can't escape so it would be really great if people like me had guidelines to get our laundry done.
I was having a lot of trouble considering so many rules while washing clothes so I figured out some of these strict no-no's that you should avoid while doing your laundry. Your job would be easily done if you avoid these few mistakes. You wouldn't be making these glitches and your clothes will also look good as new.
So go ahead and check out my list regarding some mistakes you should avoid while doing your laundry.
Those rules on the labels might seem the same for all but if the word 'only' is mentioned, make sure you follow that correctly. Use them as guidelines to get your laundry done.
The edges of your zippers might brush against other clothes in the washing machine and cause harm to other materials. It is wise to close the zippers on your jeans all the way up so that other clothes don't pay because of that.
In any case, if there is a bit too much friction your clothes are going through inside the spinner, it is better if those effects are seen on the inside of the garments than the outside.
Using too much detergent doesn't mean your clothes would be cleaner. The excess detergent will form a foam type of material over your clothes which won't be easy to rinse off. So make sure you are using the appropriate quantity of detergent.
If you accidentally spill something on your clothes, make sure you soak it in water so that the stain doesn't settle in. If that doesn't work, use a stain remover before you put it for an actual wash. Remember that you have to only dab and not rub because rubbing will cause loosening of the fibre of your cloth.
It may seem unnecessary, but it will do a lot in prolonging the life of your clothes. It will prevent color washout and prevent the fibre from getting loose easily.
Different settings on your washing machine are given for a reason. If you're still unsure, read the labels on your clothes to know which fabric needs what type of settings.
Instead of depending on the dryer, try to air dry your clothes better. Reduce the need for ironing by taking them out from the dryer and laying them flat so drying is faster.
Just because your arm pits on your sweater don't smell as much that doesn't mean you can skip a wash. Our body produces a good amount of sweat, oils and salts so it is essential that you wash your clothes regularly.
