NASA has discovered 1,284 new planets out of which a lot have the ability to sustain life. It is the largest finding of planets at one time and doubles the number of previously confirmed by Kepler space telescope. But what holds our heart with expectation is the discovery of almost nine planets that can sustain life just like Earth. Yes, NASA announced it on Tuesday in a conference that there is a 99% certainty of life on the planets.
On Monday, while Mercury passed between the Sun and the Earth, the three celestial bodies lined up in a perfect line for Mercury to appear as a small black dot on our brightest star Sun. This phenomenon where one planet passes over its star is called "transit" and that is when Kepler finds alien worlds.
Yes, that's a lot of Earth. Before Kepler, we had no idea there could be planets out there and that too this much in number. But, this made our dreams possible.
