A prestigious IIT institute is in light because of a recent survey that was organized on the IIT-Bombay campus for freshmen, which revealed a lot many surprising things. The survey found that 95% of students had never had sex but about 30% of them were in a relationship. Along with that, it has discovered that 75% students of the new batch had no issues on homosexuality or homosexual marriages.
The survey was actually conducted with an aim to welcome the diversity of freshmen batch in the campus. The survey showed some amusing insights into the student's political views and other beliefs. The survey findings even focussed on how respondents' pressure helps them to crack JEE.
IIT Bombay, established in 1958, is an institute that attracts top students from the country for its bachelor's, masters and doctoral programmes.
IIT-B's student newspaper- Insight- directed a survey to know the fresher's beliefs and lifestyles. The upcoming batch was moderately liberal and 75% of them had no qualms with the concept of homosexuality.
Out of 875 students enrolled in the premier education institute, 254 students in the Powai campus participated in the survey. The survey started last September and the analysis was made public on Tuesday.
Shreeyesh Menon, Insight chief editor said that by this survey, they wanted to know what demographic are they catering to. He mentioned that the quintessential IITian has changed over the years. And for the survey a long planning and designing took place.
Although the survey kicked off in September but the results were declared on Tuesday. It included the complete procedure of survey targeting freshers this time.
Student's background before joining IIT, political beliefs, lifestyles and post-grad plans, were all those topics that were covered in the survey. A good 60% didn't believe in religious practices and 30% somewhat followed them.
For the survey, cell phone is a necessity and so spending 1.5 hours on a social site is on their must-do list. The time spent on Facebook had decreased from 37.7% to 60%.
