Nicola Griffin is a 56-year-old single mother of two from Nottingham. She is the oldest model for the magazine 'Sports Illustrated'. She flaunted her stretch marks and grey hair in the photoshoot.
Griffin modeled for the swimwear brand 'Swimsuits For All' and was shot by an internationally acclaimed photographer, along with Kwao and Graham being the other two models for the shooting.
Griffin recalls her shooting days for the magazine, "The weather was wonderful, and everyone was lovely – there were 40 crew, and we all got on so well. Philomena, Ashley and I were like a little family."
"We (Griffin with her daughters) had gone to the bank and I was in the queue," she remembers, "when a woman tapped me on the shoulder and asked me if I'd be interested in being a hair model for a campaign."
"I dyed it for a while, but it looked dull and heavy. So I decided to go natural. It took about two years and it was horrible! At times, I even wore a hat. But when I was grey all over, I started to look really after it and condition it properly, so it was actually in great nick."
She became a model for 'White Hot Hair', a range of products for women with grey hair. The campaign was a huge success, and modelling assignments came running to Griffin since then.
We go out for drinks together and I hang out with their friends too," Griffin recalls.
"I feel quite young, at 56; I feel well, which is a massive bonus, and I'm still alive. I'm not worrying about the future – I don't think there's any point in that. I'm just trying to enjoy every day and take every opportunity that comes my way, and I'm very grateful for it, too. I've got lines, my body's not perfect in any shape or form, but so what?"
"Women have said I'm an inspiration to them, that I've given them the confidence to let their hair go grey, or to wear a bikini on the beach. For me, that's probably the best thing that's come out of it."
"I'd like to go on Sports Illustrated's cover next, at 57! Anything is possible. Age is just a number. I just think, whatever will be, will be, and hopefully some exciting stuff will happen!"
