In April 2015, at 22 weeks of pregnancy, a woman named Angela decided to have an abortion. She had two children and was already divorced. She decided to name her child as Rowan. She chose the Orlando women's center, a clinic run by Dr. James Pendergraft for her abortion.
For her child to go through minimum suffering, she chose a method of abortion that involved an injection of digoxin in heart.
Here is the whole story.
Discomfort was really distracting. I felt the whole time movements inside me. Dr. Pepper told me to relax because he noticed that the cervix was slightly soft. I asked him what he meant but he said that everything is in order.
She felt the baby kicking. At some point in the night, she wanted to call the doctor who was in charge but something stopped her. The next morning she took the pills which were to be complemented with the process of abortion.
She started feeling cramps. She asked for something for the pain but she was told that she was not ready for it. So she sat down on the strange smelling bed nearby, curling her legs to knock her body in rhythm to get rid of the pain. She realised that she was at a horrible place where the staff was being ignorant.
Angela describes it, "I felt something coming out of me. I began to automatically push, but I was so weak that I did not know if I can handle myself. I got up and used all my strength. My son, just lay on the floor, I could not look away. Suddenly he moved his right leg and curled up as if he was cold. I screamed for help but no one appeared.I was devastated."
"Quickly I ran to the door jumping more pools of blood. I told the nurse that Rowan is alive and it's necessary to call an ambulance. She looked at him and said that he did not move and left the room. I called her but the woman had no intention of coming back. I screamed breathlessly. In the end, she came back, the moment in which Rowan moved. I begged her to call an ambulance immediately."
The local coroner did not want to do that. Finally Dr. Jan.C. Garavaglia. It was that the child was not injected Dixoginu. The medical examiner was unable to determine if the child was born alive. He said that there is a possibility that the child lived.
Someone would have done something and the life of a poor child would have been saved. Many may argue on the fact that the mother was having an abortion anyway but she had her own reasons. What happened is really disrupting.
