Just when you think the recent Oscar "Lack of Diversity" controversy couldn't get any worse, rapper T.I has done the unbelievable! He made some really controversial statements about how there should be Black Oscars-where only Black actors are nominated and are qualified to receive the award. This is already being done by BET (Black Entertainment Awards). What surprises us the most is that these statements were made by T.I post Chris Rock's fantastic monologue at the Oscars about the lack of diversity and his argument that segregation is not the solution to the problem.
T.I however suggests that influential black actors like Will Smith and Jamie Foxx should pool in $10 Million dollars and to organise "Black Actors" where ONLY black actors will be in the nominations pool. Isn't that a case of reverse racism where white actors are being discriminated against? Check out his entire statement below:
He asked these actors to pool in $10 Million to organize Black Oscars
T.I's statements shocked the world, this came after Chris Rock's monologue where he blasted every hater who called Oscars and the Academy "racist".
The final nail hit the coffin when he said: "I feel that they are absolutely correct in all their claims that the Oscars are so White that they disregard the contributions of African-Americans or minority talent. I also feel that the Oscars cater to a very middle America, upper-echelon, sophisticated, who's-who of old muthaf*ckas in Hollywood".
T.I perpetuated white hatred when he said : "Why in the f*ck are we still looking to them to validate us? F*ck them. If they don't see what we see, if they don't recognize our then we can go ahead and start our own sh*t man. Will, Jada, muthafuck*n Queen Latifah, Jamie Foxx, y'all put back $10 million a piece and start a muthafuck*n award show that caters to us".
In all probability he won't because of the strong stand he took at the Oscars
As Chris Rock rightly said in his monologue, there is no need to have "Male" and "Female" categories for the Best Actor since "Robert DeNiro never slowed down so that Meryl Streep could catch up". If this is the scenario, there will soon be separate categories for black and white actors-and that isn't going to help the racism issue, after all!
