The mindset of body shaming is still in existence.
We all are different and unique. Labelling people as obese or lean is not right. The antibody mindset needs to change. What is more important than that is your acceptance of the way you are. No matter what others say, you should never be embarrassed by yourself. Remember, you are beautiful in your own way. Appreciate what you have been given rather than always criticizing.
Read the story of a young lady who does exactly this...
After working there for a month, she started posting pictures of herself clad in the store's clothes on her Instagram.
Why, of course, all of us love doing this... It's like a trend now. A good way to relax and loosen up!
She wrote an email to Sherene stating, "Hello. Something I want to make sure you keep in mind. I want size 'small', the stereotypical 'model' to model our clothes. Please use our pictures of our models if Stillwater store can't find someone who would be considered 'model material.' This is not to put anyone down but to communicate expectations of presenting our brand. Don't take it personally, all I ask for is really a good representation. In exchange for the freedom, I ask you to take down all pictures of anyone that doesn't fit the criteria. Thanks, Jessica."
But, Sherene handled it as gracefully as she could. She infact said that she doesn't want to support any such business which has such conservative values and beliefs. She also warned friends of supporting Dainty Hooligan.
She received support from all corners on social media for her fitting reply!
It was really a bold move to make. Sherene even cleared the air by saying that she doesn't have any such ill feelings against the brand but, she can't work there anymore.
It's important not to conform always. Everyone has the right to speak up for themselves.
But, Sherene was determined not to change her stance.
She was extremely happy for all the likes, shares on social media. In her words, "Love yourself! If anybody tries to bring you down, it's because they are dissatisfied with themselves."
Body shaming hasn't been completely wiped out. Don't remain silent if you face such a situation. Nobody has the right to insult you for the way you are. Remember, you are your own kind of beautiful.
