Love is always there for you, paving a way to get a hold of you even when you don't want it to. But, at times, that love could turn out to be suffocating. Especially, if it is the love of a murderous ex-boyfriend who is keen on taking away your life. This is not fiction people. This is real life... Life of Melissa Dohme who survived the attack and when asked if given a chance, will she change how the things worked out for her? She said the unbelievable. Her answer was- not a thing.
Let's hear out her story.
"My name is Melissa Dohme. I am twenty-two years old and I live in Clearwater, Florida. On Jan. 24, 2012, I found myself surrounded with family, covered in bandages, connected to machines, with tubes down my throat, praying and thanking God for saving my life. Hours before this moment I was lying alone in the road outside my home, covered in blood, taking what I thought would be my last breath. I had just been viciously attacked, beaten, and stabbed 32 times. How could this happen?"
"Four years ago, I survived an attempted murder case at the hands of my ex-boyfriend. I was stabbed 32 times," Melissa described the day on which she almost died. This is the guy who once Melissa gushed about, calling him "sweet" and "caring". Robert Burton was her highschool sweetheart whom she left after he became Phys.
After the arrest, Robert kept on calling Melissa in the middle of the night asking her of one simple thing, that is, a hug. When Melissa finally gave in and agreed to meet him, he came on to her with a knife, stabbing her 19 times.
Most people will consider it a nightmare and try to forget the incident, but Melissa never wants to forget this day. You know why? Because she met the love of her life on that very day with whom she is happily married. "I remember there were tons of police officers, ambulance, and fire rescue. Everyone was there all at once," Melissa explained saying that one guy helped her out was a handsome firefighter. They weren't aware of their interest in one another until ten months of meeting each other.
After 10 months of attack, Melissa thanked everyone who saved her life. Cameron watched her and then invited her to the firehouse for dinner. "I was just in awe of how far she'd come," said Cameron about seeing her again for the first time.
"The more I learned about Cameron, the more I realized that we have so much in common. And this feeling that I was feeling was not just because he was someone who had saved me," said Melissa. "I really had feelings for this man."
Though the couple had known each other for just a few months, they fell deeply in love.
He's jailed for life without any parolee.
No matter what, you can always find a bright spot to something which is completely dark.
