Scarlett, who was born last year in February, suffered a lot of injuries due to her forceps delivery and that has scared her mom from having another baby. Baby Scarlett was a rare case and even after using the vacuum pump, the baby wasn't getting delivered, and the doctors were forced to make it a forceps delivery. This process caused injuries to the baby's head, and she got bruises all over the face as well.
It was a pretty sad story because the baby was admitted to the ICU for a few days and she was under critical observation only due to her injuries. The baby was apparently healthy, but the forceps injury turned her hospital stay longer than usual.
Their baby had bruises all over her head and face along with a 6cm long cut on her head due to a birth injury.
The baby, who is now a-year-old, who was born in Basildon Hospital and weighed 7lbs 6oz was in an incubator for quite sometime and she looked like a 'bloody mess'.
The baby's heart rate and other vitals were dropping and they had to make a quick decision and hence, decided to go forward with the forceps delivery.
They were childhood sweethearts and because of the entire ordeal about their baby, they might have put off having another child for life.
Louise says that even now when she sees pictures of the first few moments of their daughter being all bruised up, it breaks her heart. Scarlet clearly won't remember any of it, but her parents are definitely scarred.
Scarlet was in a breech position in the womb so delivery wasn't going to be easy. The doctor tried to use a vacuum pump nearly 3 times and the 3rd time, he pulled so hard that he fell off his chair and the mother nearly fell off from the delivery bed.
On seeing the failure of the vacuum method, the doctors clipped forceps on each side of the baby's head and started pulling her out. The midwife in the operation theatre screamed at him not to do something hasty but the doctor wouldn't listen.
Scarlet was rushed to the neonatal care ICU to tend to her brutal injuries. The next entire week, she was admitted in the ICU so that her injuries recover.
In usual cases, the doctors are supposed to alert the patients about the complications during delivery and in this case, the use and risks involving the vacuum and forceps method. But nothing as such was done for Louise and this was very unethical on their part.
Everyone knew that Scarlet's condition wasn't very well. It wasn't just the bruises or the large cut on her head, but her face was all beat up as well.
Tommy, the father, stated that he would never put Louise or his baby though such a thing again and that's why they've decided to not have another child for life.
