When Emily was diagnosed with cervical cancer, the only way out was going through a radical hysterectomy.
The hysterectomy left her with absolutely zero chances of having a baby.
Moments before the surgery, the doctor revealed to Emily that they had to run a pregnancy test on her, and it came back positive. Imagine the pain the couple must have felt when they had to decide to go ahead with the surgery anyway, because that was the only way to save Emily's life.
Emily's mother, Cindy, was just as pained as the couple on knowing that the beautiful Mike and Emily could never become parents. But then, she decided to do one more thing - to literally give her daughter all the happiness in the world.
Cindy proposed to be a surrogate mother and carry the couple's child!
At first, the proposition was taken lightly as though something mentioned just in passing. After all, Cindy was already in her early 50s, and the chances of something like that being successful seemed grim. However, with time, the couple began to treat the idea as more and more of a possible option.
When the couple finally decided that they did need someone to be a surrogate mother, they thought who could be a better option than Cindy! Cindy went through hormonal manipulation and psychological evaluation to prepare her body to handle pregnancy. Fertilization expert, Dr. Helen Kim, then implanted an egg.
