The human body has a variety of ways to let you know that it's having problems, and pain is not the only one on that list. So, anytime you notice anything unusual about your body, it's easy to assume that something's wrong with your health.
Here's the story of a 14-year-old Pantera Mayhill, who learnt the same the hard way. Let this be a warning to you not to repeat a mistake similar to hers. Check out her story below.
14-year-old Pantera Mayhill would lately feel constantly thirsty and would suffer from headaches. She also had a lot of mood swings as of late, but none of these were identified as symptoms of anything wrong with her body.
A dark ring appeared out of nowhere behind her neck.
Her mother noticed the dark ring at the back of her neck. At first, she misidentified it as mere dirt, but when she realized it wasn't what she thought and decided to take her to a doctor.
The doctor examined the girl, and his final diagnosis is truly scary.
The doctor said that the dark ring means that the body was not producing insulin properly. This essentially meant that Pantera likely had type-2 diabetes. The dark ring is a result of elevated insulin levels in the body, which cause insulin receptors in the skin to grow unusually and change color.
It is known that type-2 diabetes progresses much more rapidly in kids than in adults, and can lead to severe health complications. So, it's a good thing that Pantera's condition has been identified and caught in the early stages. Pantera is now taking insulin injections and is trying to work on her diet.
