It is said that if you're really determined to do something in your life, you will achieve it. Such is the story of Sanjay and his fellow farmers, who started to cultivate pearls in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, India, in a 10X10 freshwater pond, and finally succeeded.
Now, they are earning millions every year. Who knew, right? Well, they believed in it and they did it.
Sanjay has been cultivating pearls for quite a time now. He, along with his fellow farmers decided to try and cultivate oysters in a freshwater pond and succeeded.
The process of cultivating oysters is a systematic process and needs to be executed out carefully. It starts with seeding the oysters and then they are closed and drowned back in the waters of the pond with the help of a mesh.
It takes a few months for the oyster to produce pearls and farmers have to wait patiently. The process is long and it might take them 5 to 6 months to form pearls.
Sanjay is also aware of the techniques of making designer oysters. He has arranged for a special procedure to prepare these designer oysters.
One can find various shapes of these oysters, from Buddha to the Holy Cross, even goddess Durga on her lion. They also help them in fetching extra money.
Even though Sanjay belongs to a peasant's family, he has studied law. It was his own decision to quit his profession as a lawyer and decided to pursue farming.
Pearls have fascinated Sanjay his entire life. This passion of his drove him to the Agriculture College of his district, where with the help of his professor, he was able to find the techniques of cultivating oysters in fresh water.
