The unique creation of nature, Caño Cristales has been known as the "river of five colors," "the river that ran away from paradise," and "the most beautiful river in the world."
When the water level is decent enough between wet and dry seasons, a unique species of algae Macarenia clavigera is found growing along the riverbed.
The water in the river is so clear that the bottom can be seen even at a considerable depth.
