The majestic lion who spent 20 years in confinement due to a travelling circus, has been set free. A film crew captured the breathtaking moment when he was finally freed !
Although the performing of wild animals in circuses is prohibited in Peru, this lion had gone undetected since the crew kept travelling.
Wildlife officials and Animal Defenders International (ADI) had to stage a dramatic intervention to free the innocent soul.
They raided the circus and had an eight-hour armed stand off with the troupe.
They also took the help of riot police and a public prosecutor to eventually break the elderly big cat free from his shackles, where he struggled.
"It was heartbreaking to see Mufasa chained among the circus equipment, living on the back of a pick-up truck. A heavy harness and chains were wrapped around his body and as we cut them away, he stretched, free, for the first time. It was magical to see him moving about in and out of the trees in his own piece of protected forest", said Jan Creamer from ADI.
Every soul is here to be free. Happy new life, Mufasa !
