We think of the white shark as the biggest predator in the sea, but a long time ago there lived certain animals in front of which even the great white sharks would appear to be small. They were called the megalodons—a shark kind which would put a full-fledged white shark to the shame. It is believed that they got extinct years ago, but some believe that they are still wandering in the ocean for their next hunt.

The megalodons were discovered during the Renaissance in Europe back in the 1800's. They found some clear evidence like giant triangular teeth embedded in rock formations. Numerous accounts of naturalists proved it further that there was a giant mammal in the sea. But it wasn't until the mid-1800's that the Megalodons got its name.
After years of research and working on the fossil evidence, the scientists believed that a fully grown megalodon was between 50 and 80 feet long. That would be equal to about ten normal people.
A fully grown white shark is about 20 feet in length which are about one-fourth the size of the megalodon.
Most of the people believe that the great mammal is long dead. There are those who still believe that it is still around. There are no evidence to prove that they are not extinct, but it might just be possible.
The megalodons, as evidence even help to cite the discovery of other ocean creatures that were thought to be extinct long ago. It is a fact that the world only knows about 5% of the world beneath the vast oceans which is nothing. Since we know so less about our oceans, it might be possible that the megalodons are not extinct.
There even have been a few eye-witness accounts of the great shark. For example, in 1918, a pair of experienced fishermen witnessed something unusual. They saw a 100-foot long shark off the coast of Australia. Well, nothing can be said for sure as of now but till then beware of the sea because it may be possible that the great shark is hiding in the dark.
