Social Media CEO and Youtuber Zack James said that the former Instagram model Essena O’Neill should take the responsibility of the choices she made on the social media that ultimately led her to be dissatisfied.
Let's find out what went wrong.
O'Neill has been the talk of the town since undertaking her crusade to get rid of the social media's evils. The 18-year-old has deleted all her social media accounts claiming that they gave her a feeling of emptiness despite her mass following.
James, the CEO of Rise9, the Los Angeles-based social media company, rebuked the model on Facebook, saying, "Social media can be whatever the user desires it to be. Allowing yourself to become pressured into a false life that you're uncomfortable with is the result of your own actions and intent. The inability to define yourself, your life, your own sense of confidence comes from a lack of trying to understand yourself."
James was once a YouTube star, and went by the name Outback Zack, before deleting all his videos in 2013 due to his frustration with the network.
He believes that O'Neill has falsely accused the "Mankind's greatest communication tool" for her own failings in making the right decisions on the social media. The post he added on Monday has since been shared over 4,000 times. He further continued in his post, "You decide to take money for a dress? That's your choice. You decide to spend hours taking the right photo. That's your choice. You decide to live a life that you feel is a lie? That is absolutely your choice."
"Blaming social media, calling it a lie, further shows your lack of attempt to understand yourself. Yes, deleting your Social Media is a step in the right direction. Disowning personal responsibility for your own happiness and shifting the blame is a step backwards."
