The changes in laws and the shift in the view towards marijuana use have both led to an increase in the trend of smoking weed. A survey showed that in 2002, only 4.1% people admitted to weed usage.

A similar study conducted in 2013 revealed that about 9.5% people smoke weed. Nearly half of the country – 23 states – have legal medical marijuana dispensaries. This has definitely been a reason for the change in attitude towards the drug.

People can legally purchase marijuana in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and the District of Columbia. Many other states have begun decriminalizing the drug, and this could lead to legalization in the near future.
