Bharti Singh Chauhan: A Woman Who Battled Abuse And Is Counselling Over 17,000 Girls

Mubarak ho beti hui hai...When we hear this, the first thing that comes to our mind is that the couple not happy with the female child's birth. Fortunately, this was not the case with Bharti Singh Chouhan, who was born as an answer to her parents' 12 years of prayers. Little did the family or this little girl know what the life has in store for her. One after the other, life threw such challenges in her life that she had to become a support system for her friends. Bharti's younger brother met with an accident which impacted her father so much that he could not support the family. She helped her mother while managing studies.After finishing school, Bharti joined Rajasthan University but soon had to take up a job after her mother was struck with paralysis. She started working at a lingerie shop.   

People who changed her life.

It was while working at a departmental store that Bharti first encountered her husband, Bhuvanendra Singh Chauhan. From then on, Bharti embarked on a journey that despite having more downs than ups got her to where she is today. She always wanted to work for the welfare of the society. It was in 2012, after the Nirbhaya rape case that she, along with her husband, approached NGOs to help girls. Many rejections came their way, but their determined soul never chose to step back, and they finally started with PraveenLataSansthan.   You can hear all about Bharti's journey in the Josh Talks that she recently addressed. 

"I was placed in the lingerie section at the Sagar Departmental Store, the first supermarket started in Jaipur. I was a teenage girl, and was very uncomfortable doing it, but it paid well. I even faced sexual abuse and advances from customers and other male staff members," Bharti says.
