A perfect combination of beauty and talent, these women are very capable of giving competition to Bollywood actresses.So, how about we take a look at these lesser-known fashionistas who are making the country proud.

Tania Sachdev

Woman Grandmaster and an International Master in the game of Chess, Tania Sachdev is the winner of Reykjavík Open and Commonwealth Chess Championship 2016. In a video that aired on NDTV, 7-year-old Tania Sachdev is seen having fun dancing for the camera and then there is a shot of her sitting in front of a chess board, the look on her face is so encouraging. It has been 24 years since Tania gave that interview and she is now one of the leading female chess players in our country.

Sharmila Nicollet

Sharmila Nicollet is an Indo-French professional golfer who began her career at the age of 11 and won her first tournament when she was 15. She is a former national sub-junior swimming champion who has won over 72 gold and silver medals in state and national aquatic meets.  

Prachi Tehlan

Wondering why a tele-actor is featuring in this list? Prachi Tehlan, who is playing the lead in Star Plus's show Ikyavan, was a national level basketball and netball player, before she entered the television industry. Talking about how she chose this role, she told Indian Express, "My personality is not like a typical lead on television so I only go for selective roles and this looked like the perfect choice." 

Pratima Singh

Pratima Singh is a member of women's national basketball team. She belongs to a family of sportspersons, and won the Century Sports Award for Excellence in Sports in 2010.In 2016, she tied the knot with Indian cricketer Ishant Sharma.

Jwala Gutta  

Jwala Gutta started her career with tennis, but then took up badminton at the age of 6. She won her first title when she was 17, and has never looked back since. She has won seven straight National Senior Double Championships in women's doubles category. 

Ishita Malaviya

Ishita Malaviya is a professional surfer who changed the whole image of surfing. According to Financial Express, it was in 2007 that Malaviya was first introduced to surfing by a German exchange student and surfer who she met in Karnataka."It was through him that we discovered an ashram, where the devotees were surfers from California. They were surfing at a spot that was only an hour away from us. A small chat and we found ourselves amid the waves," Malaviya, country’s first female professional surfer, told the news daily.

Dipika Pallikal Karthik

Dipika Pallikal Karthik won her first National Level Squash Championship when she was 12. Not to mention, she is the one of the first Indians to break into the top 10 in professional Squash Association Women's ranking. 

Ashwini Ponnappa

Ashwini Ponnappa, an Indian badminton player, began her career in 2001 after winning junior badminton championships. Ashwini won her first gold medal at the South Asian Games in 2006 followed by a gold in 2010 Commonwealth Games in Women's Doubles category. In December 2017, Ashwini married businessman and model Karan Medappa in Karnataka. 

Alisha Abdullah

Alisha Abdullah is India's first racing champion. "Speed is in my blood. I developed my passion for racing by seeing my dad in action. I have been go-karting since the age of eight and won my first championship at 11," Alisha Abdullah has been quoted as saying by her website.

Akanksha Singh 

Captain of India's Women National Basketball team, Akanksha Singh has been in the team since 2004. You will be amazed to know that Akanksha's sisters Divya, Prashanti, and Pratima, have also represented Indian National Women's Basketball Team, and her sister Priyanka Singh is a basketball coach in the National Institute of Sports.
