Do you remember the song, Jiya dhadak dhadak jiya dhadak dhadak jaaye...?Well, more than the lyrics, I remember this song for the innocent face who starred in it. Yes, I am talking about Renuka, whose character was played by actor Smilie Suri. Smilie Suri won countless hearts with her charm in her brother Mohit Suri's directorial debut Kalyug with Kunal Khemu. This film was her debut in Bollywood too.You will be amazed to know that Smilie is Mukesh Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt's niece and Emraan Hashmi, Pooja Bhatt, Alia Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt's cousin. After doing a couple of films, Smilie disappeared from the Bollywood scene. But now she is back in the limelight as she is an expert pole dancer. So, how about we take a look at her life and how she landed into a new profession.
Smilie Suri was cast in N. Chandra's Yeh Mera India after Kalyug along with Anupam Kher, Seema Biswas, and Rajpal Yadav. Unfortunately, it did not work. She assisted her brother in the making of film Zeher and also did a cameo in Crook for him.
Smilie Suri was preparing for the Olympics before she was offered Kalyug in 2005. According to sources, she has worked with Bollywood choreographer Shiamak Davar's group for five years. Latin ballroom dancer Sandeep Soparrkar also trained her. She has also learned Kathak from Kathak guru, Vijayshree Choudhary.
After disappearing from Bollywood, Smilie became a professional pole dancer.
In a conversation with Daily Bhaskar, Smilie revealed, "I underwent a terrible phase in my life last year when two of my family members, my father, and grandma passed away. Other than that, there have been many things happening in my life. I was feeling all alone, and then I started getting into depression. I was unhappy with my life at that point. There were times when I was clueless about everything. I did not know what to do."
Pole dancing influenced her so much that she decided to seek professional training and teach it herself.
In an interview with Bombay Times, she revealed, "I was battling depression when I found pole dance, and it has brought me a lot of emotional stability. I don't feel the need for anyone to back me up anymore."
"Of course, I still have days when I cry myself to sleep, but all that it takes to wipe away my blues is one student sharing how confident and independent she feels after learning it," she added.
According to TOI, Smilie Suri tied the knot with her dance teacher Vineet Bangera in a simple wedding in 2014. The marriage was a perfect blend of North Indian and South Indian rituals. She performed with her hubby in the seventh season of the dance reality show, Nach Baliye.
Smilie Suri made the headlines nearly after 13 years. It is inspiring to witness that this lady fought PCOD and Thyroid and now does not think about showcasing her bold moves because IT MAKES HER HAPPY. That's all, folks.
