Pause, Think, React: Here Are Some Things That Every College Student Should Keep in Mind

As we grow up, we tend to learn new things about life and engage ourselves in different experiences. Then comes a time when we finish high-school and it's time to join a college. Our mind starts wondering how would our college experience be like? Would we be able to handle it? Or if it would be fun or scary, or simply nerve-wracking? Too many questions and possibilities come to our mind when we hear these words. From kindergarten to finishing high-school, we gain a sense of what it feels to be an adult, yet we go through one of the biggest changes in college, in a completely new atmosphere, surrounded by strangers. This phase allows us to take ownership of our time, responsibilities and who we want to become. But knowing things in advance can guarantee us a good start, and can make us focus on things that will make our college life a memorable one. Let’s take a look at things we should do and should avoid when we begin our college life:

Do: Money Management

One of the most important things one needs to learn while being at college is to learn how to manage money. Spending money is easy, but it definitely takes efforts to learn money management, it could be fun hanging out with your new college friends every once in awhile, but you should learn how to manage your money right so you can use it effectively.

Do: Participate in Campus Activities

College life would certainly become happening if you involve yourself in the activities in your campus. Participation does benefit and helps you gain confidence. It also helps you realise that you have the potential for greater things than just binge-watching Netflix and long naps.

Do: Participate in Sports

Taking part in extracurricular activities such as Sports helps in increasing focus, attention as well as takes off the assignment stress. You never know when you might get selected to play for your college at a competitive level.

Do: Learn a Language

If you’re enrolling in a good college, chances are there might be classes where you can learn an international language. It is highly recommended to take it up, even though the initial days could be challenging. Knowing an extra language is an added advantage in your CV.

Do: Join Clubs

These days, apart from education, several clubs and activities take place in a college such as dance, photography, gaming, movies, self-defence, yoga, music and fashion. Being involved with the community will keep your college life more interesting.

Don't: Compare your performance with anyone else

Every person is different, has unique skills and can adopt to different ways of learning; comparing ourselves with someone else could simply be disappointing and can set you back.

Don't: Go on searching your special someone

Even though relationships are great, and help us grow. It should not become our priority that can make us lose focus from our goals. College-time is crucial and one must be dedicated towards building their career rather than going on a pursuit for searching a match.

Don't: Argue with professors

It does not matter how good your teachers were to you in school, college professors might not be the same. Also, each professor has a different way of teaching and grading you. We must learn to adapt for maximum results. Was it informative enough? Kudos to your knowledge then. It’s time to implement the same and while you might not find clubs in several colleges you’re aspiring to join or the exposure we talked about earlier, there is one institute I know where you can have it all - SRMIST. It’s time you dream big and achieve even bigger by enrolling yourself into one of the best institutes there is for engineering in India which also offers international opportunities.
