These Bold Statements Of Radhika Apte Show It's Always Good To Speak Our Heart Out

Period stigmas, social attitude and abnormal reactions of people on normal issues have always pulled back a strong woman from doing what her heart desires. But, Radhika is not one of those who would grab a chair and sit in the corner of the room, accepting all the bullshit that the atmosphere is surrounded with. The actress has always surprised the media, audience, and filmmakers with her bold, beautiful and 'never-settle' attitude. Right from her statements, revelations, upbringing, and the way she perceives things, this woman has never failed to inspire me.  Come, let's take a look at some instances where Radhika shunned the narrow-minded thinkers and created an impact on the minds of millions.

1. When she spoke about her first period.

On the launch of her film Pad Man's song Aaj Se Teri, the actress was asked about the values that have been instilled by her parents when it comes to such sensitive things. She answered the question with a lot of confidence and shared an anecdote from the time she got her first period.

“My parents were doctors and so I was told that this would happen. On the day, my mother threw a party and gifted me a watch. I was crying, but still I got lots of gifts," quoted by Indiatimes.

2. She tried to overcome her embarrassment.

Radhika went on and shared that initially when she visited supermarkets, she always felt shy and embarrassed while asking for sanitary napkins.

"When I used to go to shop sanitary napkins, I used to feel a little embarrassed. One day I decided to go and ask them loudly that I want a packet of sanitary. I did that loudly and purposely, now I don't shy about it anymore," she said in an interview with Filmfare.

3. She has never shied away from speaking her mind.

Radhika thinks that there are many dimensions to being a woman and each of it should be explored. In an interview, she clarified the difference between being a 'bold' woman and a 'strong' woman. I have never seen hesitation on her face while discussing unconventional dimensions of an issue.

4. The kind of roles that Radhika opts speak a lot about her personality and mindset.

Her film Parched was in itself a thought-provoking story and to have the guts to portray a role like that, requires a lot of sensibility and an open mind. According to IANS, when the actress was questioned for taking up a controversial role, she quoted that:

“I am not ashamed of anything. People who are embarrassed about their own body are curious about other’s body. So, if you want to see a naked body tomorrow, see yourself in the mirror rather than my clip. Then only we can talk about this.”

5. Her role in Phobia.

Her film Phobia was a psychological thriller and was a game-changer for the genre. Furthermore, the actress never takes roles based on the genre of the story. She also stated that:

"Phobia is the first Bollywood film where I’m playing the solo lead. I don’t know what result we will get at the box office. But I have never selected a film by looking at its genre. I pick a film only when I like the character that I’ll be playing. It needs to be a challenging character for me to portray.”

6. Find Your Beautiful

The video where Radhika asks all women to love themselves and find beauty within was again a serious thing that not many people had addressed before. In the special video, she sounds like a friend who will always stick by your side and lift you up on a demotivating day.

7. Pad Man

Her latest release which is slated to release on January 26, 2018, is yet another different story which is based on a real-life story of a man who wants women to understand the importance of menstrual hygiene and use sanitary pads instead of usual Indian jugaads.
