This Former Cricketer Is Feeling The Need Of Finding Dhoni's Alternative

MS Dhoni is known as a game changer cricketer in the history of Indian cricket. But after India lost the second T20I against New Zealand in Rajkot on Saturday, former legend cricketers gave their opinion that maybe it is the time that Dhoni should allow young cricketers to take his place. In the 2nd T20I between India and New Zealand that took place on November 04, Saturday, India lost the match against New Zealand by 40 runs.MS Dhoni joined the match with Virat Kohli in 9.1 overs when India was at 67/4 in their chase of 197. Though Kohli batted well, Dhoni was seen finding it difficult to match the record. This prompted former cricketers to make their opinion that Indian team management must now look at different alternatives for Dhoni.

Was it Dhoni's game that left too much for India to score?

According to the sources, till the 15th over of the Indian innings, Dhoni was at the scoring rate of less than 100 (16 off 18 balls). Many believe that this was the reason that left too much for India to do in the last few overs of the game. After the match, former Indian team cricketers VVS Laxman slammed MS Dhoni for his average performance.

"Kohli's strike rate was 160, MS Dhoni's strike rate was 80."

"In T20s, MS Dhoni's role is at No 4. He requires more time to get his eye in and then do the job. But today (Saturday) as a classical example because when Virat Kohli was batting, Dhoni had to give the strike to Kohli. Kohli's strike rate was 160, MS Dhoni's strike rate was 80. That's not good enough when India was chasing a mammoth total," Laxman said in a post-match show according to News18.

"I still feel it's time for MS Dhoni to give youngsters a chance."

"It will be an opportunity for a youngster to blossom and get confidence playing international cricket. He is definitely an integral part of ODI cricket," Laxman added.

"Eventually we weren't good enough with the bat," says Kohli.

But according to the sources, Kohli backed his teammate and said, "Eventually we weren't good enough with the bat. When you're chasing 200, all the batsmen need to chip in, or one batsman has to keep going at a 200 strike-rate. Tried to do my best. M.S. (Dhoni) was very good at the end. But we were left with a very difficult task."But it was not just Laxman but former Indian cricketer, Ajit Agarkar, has also put forward his opinion that India should look past Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the shortest format of the game after the 'Men in Blue' suffered this defeat.

"I think India must now look at other options, at least in T20Is," says Ajit Agarkar.

"In one-day cricket, they seem to be happy with the role that he is playing. When you were the captain of the side, it was different," said Ajit Agarkar according to the sources.

"But just as a batsman, will India miss him, I don't think so."

In T20 cricket, it is a lot easier to make that transition as there is a lot of experience in that team apart from MS Dhoni now," Agarkar added.

"He takes a little bit of time to settle down, and in Twenty20 cricket, there is no time."

"You had a chance (in the second T20 against New Zealand) if he (Dhoni) had got going immediately but that has been his problem for a while now. It's not tonight or over the last few games," Agarkar said.

"I heard people say that he should bat at a different number, but..."

"I heard people say that he should bat at a different number, but he came into bat in the 10th over in this match. How many times you get to bat 10 overs in T20 cricket and in my opinion, there was enough time," Agarkar added. On the other hand, where former cricketers put an opinion to replace Dhoni, MS Dhoni proved to be one of the fittest members of the Indian cricket team by his epic split in the match.

Though, Dhoni pulled off a classic split in the match on Saturday.

During the match, New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner fired the ball wide after he spotted Dhoni charging down the track. After failing to make contact with the ball, Dhoni had to get back quickly. In order to accomplish the same, Dhoni pulled off an epic split as wicketkeeper Glenn Phillips dislodged the bails. His fans were awestruck by his this technique. So, after reading the opinion of these former cricketers, what do you think? Share your views with us in the comment section.
