"My pain may be the reason for somebody's laugh. But my laugh must never be the reason for somebody's pain." – Charlie ChaplinCyberbullying has become increasingly common and unfortunately, it continues to occur in ever-growing amount. We often notice individuals giving ruthless feedback on social media platforms. They believe that since they are behind the phones and laptops, they can do anything and nobody's going to stop them. In some cases, the tormenting gets quite extreme as it stretches out to threats of rape and acid attacks. But at the same time, people have now begun speaking about cyberbullying, cyberstalking and cyberharassment in open. The most widely recognized casualties of such cases are our famous people. Only a couple of days back, Sunny Leone, our Baby Doll, shared her experience of online abuse.
We all know she is a former adult star and is now shifted to India to establish her career in Bollywood. She has appeared in numerous Bollywood movies and there's a lot in her plate now. As I mentioned earlier she has revealed about her experience of being cyberbullied in front of media.
"Daniel was not in the country, and I was frightened because I was living alone. I would hear noises outside my house and walk towards the door with a knife in my hand," Leone told Mid Day. Daniel is Sunny's husband.
"He started banging on my door. That his Twitter followers had also bullied me, made me fear that a mob would turn up and break into my house."
The incident left Leone distraught, and urged her to install cameras outside her home.
"We changed our house later, but this incident still affects me," she added.
"Young girls and boys go through depression because they are bullied. Many even end up committing suicide."
"I don’t know if this will end, but, we can create awareness about it. Thankfully, people have been supportive towards me, and, I am strong, but not everyone can say that."
"We need to help them," she sais. She even urged people to keep from experimenting with games like the deadly Blue Whale challenge.
Sunny said this during a program called 'Aakanksha Against Harassment'. These NGOs work on issues related to cybercrime and Sunny Leone has joined hands with this NGO.
Whatever Sunny experienced, is something none of us want to encounter. It's time that we all speak up against cyberbullying and cybercrime. If you have a similar story to share, please write to me at email@example.com.
