It reduces concentration, enhances irritation, body aches, headaches plus one can clearly notice a drastic change in his/her appetite, followed by mood swings.But do you know that handling stress is not that difficult? It can be managed by following certain simple tips. Dr Hariprasad, Research Associate at Himalaya Drug Company shared with us some hacks that can be easily implemented to help one relieve stress. C'mon, let's have a look at how one can become his/her own stress buster. 

1. Identify the cause of stress

Spend some time with yourself, to understand the root cause of your stress. Jot down the causes and plan your course of action accordingly. This will help you plan your activities to manage stress.

2. Look for herbal solutions

According to Ayurveda texts and modern research, Ashwagandha herb is known for its rejuvenating properties that help in maintaining a healthy balance between the nervous system, endocrine glands, and immune system, thus reducing the harmful effects of long-term stress on our body.

3. Exercise regularly

You can visit the nearest Yoga centre/gym or go for small walks regularly. It relieves your stress and rejuvenates your body. Also, try meditating for few minutes which will help you calm your mind. Even deep breathing exercises help in relaxing body muscles and make you feel stress-free.

4. Eat healthy food

There is a direct connection between your stress level and diet. Stress eating is very common and we tend to overeat junk food. Always try and avoid sugary, fatty snacks and choose fruits and vegetables instead. Fish with high levels of omega-3 fatty acids has also proved to reduce stress levels.

5. Maintain a regular sleep pattern

A person needs 7-9 hours of sleep every day to function better. By maintaining this pattern regularly, you will be able to fight your battles in a much better way.

6. Listen to music

Music in many ways can help relieve stress. From triggering biochemical stress reducers to assisting in treating stress associated with medical procedures, music can be your best savior from stress.

7. Write it out

Keeping a journal may be one way to effectively relieve stress-related symptoms due to its meditative and reflective effects. A journal can really help us put things in perspective, so pick a time every day to write down a few things that make you happy. 

8. Take a walk

A quiet, meditative walk can do wonders for stress relief, especially when we step outdoors. Try not to rush, and take whatever pace feels most natural. 

9. Reach Out

Your social network is one of your best tools for handling stress. Talk to your friends, preferably face to face. Share what's going on. You can get a fresh perspective on things and also strengthen your bond.

10. Laugh out loud

A good belly laugh doesn’t just lighten the load mentally, but it lowers cortisol, the body stress hormone. It even boosts brain chemicals called endorphins, which help swing your mood. Just turn on your favourite sitcom or video, read your favourite comics, or chat with someone who makes you smile.

11. Breathe deeply

Sit up straight, eyes closed, with a hand on your belly, take a 5-minute break and just focus on your breathing. Inhale slowly through your nose, feel the breath in your abdomen and watch its way to the top of your head. Reverse the process as you exhale through your mouth.

12. Practice the 4 A's of stress management

Stress is an automatic response from your nervous system, that arises mostly from work, a meeting with your boss, family gatherings or fight with friends. When handling such predictable stressors, you can either change the situation or change your reaction. When deciding which option to choose in any given scenario, it’s helpful to think of the four A's: Avoid, Alter, Adapt or Accept.

13. Make time for fun and relaxation

Don’t get so caught up in the hustle of life that you forget to take care of yourself. Nurturing yourself is a necessity and if you regularly make time for fun and relaxation, you’ll be in a better place to handle your life.

14. Learn more about stress relief

Stress is an unavoidable part of life, but that doesn't mean you should ignore it. Too much-untreated stress can cause potentially serious physical and mental health problems.But the good news is stress is manageable. With some patience and a few useful strategies, you can reduce your stress, whether it's family stress or stress at the workplace.

15. Be grateful

Be grateful for all the things that are good in your life.
