The life, which the glamorous Bollywood stars lead fascinate, most of us. Besides being impressed by their life styles, we emulate them in every sense possible. But the Indian film industry, specially the Bollywood, has a very dark side to it. One glaring example is drug addiction. Over the years, we have witnessed drug and alcohol addiction in many actors. While some celebrities have been bold enough to accept them, some have shied away from it. WittyFeed brings you a list of such celebrities.    

#1 Sanjay Dutt

This is what he has to say about it. "My journey with substance abuse has been about 12 years. There are no drugs in the world that I have not done. When my father took me to America (for rehab), they gave me a list (of drugs) and I ticked every drug on it because I had taken all of them. The doctor told my dad, 'What kind of food do you eat in India? Going by the drugs he did, he should be dead by now! I didn't leave drugs because of my family. I left because I wanted to be out of it. I didn't want that life. When you start the rehabilitation process, one part is physical - your body breaks down and you feel cold. But the most difficult part comes later, when your mind says, 'Ab toh tu theek ho gaya hai, ek baar maar lete hain'. That's when you have to use willpower. " Source

#4 Ranbir Kapoor

The chocolate boy Ranbir Kapoor is known for his charms and acting skills. But he smoked weed and pot and also used it a tool to perk up his role in the film, Rockstar. As revealed in an interview, Ranbir shared this news. The time he started to smoke weed was when he was at the filming school.    

#5 DJ Aqeel

Aqeel Ali popularly known as DJ Aqeel and Hrithik Roshan’s brother-in-law was arrested in Dubai for possession of drugs.  

#6 Dharmendra 

Dharmendra the veteran actor of yester time, during the promotions of Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, had confessed about how his drinking problem had led to the downfall of his career. But he quit it in 2011 because of his deteriorating health.   Source

The yesteryear's actress Mamta Kulkarni's career went downhill the moment she started taking drugs. As a drug addict, she got into several controversies.  

#9 Mahesh Bhatt

Mahesh Bhatt revealed that he quit drinking after his daughter Shaheen started avoiding him due to the smell. He couldn't bear it and thus quit it.    Source

“Any mind-altering substance whether it's narcotics or alcohol or prescription pills creates a lethal dependency. Before you know it you're sucked into a downward spiral. The idea of any addiction is very damaging. People have all kinds of weird addiction, even shopping. My only addiction (now) is the love of my family. They're my life-supporting system. Please educate yourself vis-a-vis the consequences of whatever you are experimenting with. Addiction is not cool.” There was a time when Fardeen Khan was rising high in Bollywood. But drug addiction took over him. Arrested with Cocaine in Juhu in 2001, he had to fight a long legal battle because of that. Source

The actress who battled ovarian cancer for a long time was addicted to alcohol and drugs. However, after her cancer surgeries, she has supposedly quit the habit. 

#12 Pooja Bhatt 

A producer, filmmaker, actor, and designer, Pooja Bhatt struggled to overcome alcohol addiction. She said her father Mahesh Bhatt compelled her to think about her life. She also revealed that she started drinking at the age of 16, smoked her first cigarette at the age of 23 but never consumed cocaine.

She discussed her life as an addict on social media platform like Twitter etc to share what she went through.  

#13 Gauri Khan

Wondering why Gauri Khan is on the list? She was caught at Berlin airport for possession of Marijuana.There have been rumours that she was a drug addict but the real fact remains unknown.  

#14 Arjun Rampal

He is known to have consumed marijuana. It is also believed that his friendship with Sussanne Khan reportedly grew because of the same habits.    

#15 Irrfan Khan

Already in a pool of accusations for ex-girlfriend's suicide, he was heavily into drugs. Though he is reported have come out of it, he has not succeeded in Bollywood much.  

#17 Sussanne Khan

A depressed Sussanne took to drugs. Before everything could resurface to normalcy, she became a serious drug addict and it is said that this is what led to her divorce with Hrithik.   

#18 Vijay Raaz

He is best known for his comic roles in Run, Dhamaal, and other flicks, Vijay Raaz was caught at Dubai airport for possession of drugs in 2005.   

#19 Parveen Babi

Yesteryear's popular actress Parveen Babi was a drug and alcohol addict. But what turned her to this was her breakup with director Mahesh Bhatt. Parveen Babi was reportedly addicted to LSD and was found dead alone in her apartment due to substance overdose.
